Building solutions with function and purpose.
Hi! I’m Harry Hillman, a motivated software developer with a strong passion for creating efficient, user-centered solutions. I specialize in full-stack development, focusing on modern web technologies to build responsive, accessible, and intuitive applications. I take pride in writing clean, well-structured, and thoroughly tested code to ensure both functionality and maintainability.
I hold a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science from the University of York, where I graduated with an Upper Second-Class degree. My dissertation focused on Financial Forecasting using Machine Learning, showcasing my interest in applying advanced technologies to solve real-world problems. Beyond my academic studies, I’ve pursued a wide range of personal projects, giving me hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Git version control. These initiatives have not only expanded my technical knowledge but also honed my ability to independently research, problem-solve, and work with documentation.
Outside of coding, I’m passionate about continuous self-improvement, with interests in fitness, art, entrepreneurship, and occasionally gaming. I thrive on challenges, constantly pushing myself to grow both personally and professionally. My ultimate goal is to contribute to meaningful projects that make a tangible impact, whether on a global scale or in everyday lives.
I am currently working on a platform that aims to streamline certain processes within the healthcare sector, with a focus on cost-efficiency and sustainability. I developed the site using React and Node.js, integrating the Google Maps API and other APIs for logistics coordination. The project also involved working with Amazon Web Services DynamoDB for data storage, as well as NodeMailer and SMSWorks APIs for user authentication. I have been in contact with key NHS staff, exploring potential implementation opportunities within healthcare institutions.
View ProjectFor my university dissertation, "Financial Forecasting: Comparing Traditional and Modern Approaches When Forecasting Index Funds", I developed financial forecasting models using statistical and machine learning techniques. I utilised Yahoo Finance to gather historical financial data and applied various models including ARIMA, LSTM, Random Forest, and VARMA. Under the guidance of my supervisor, Dimitar Kazakov, I analysed and compared the performance of these models in predicting stock prices and market trends.
View ProjectA website that takes user input of text, or URLs to webpages/news articles and scrapes all data from the webpage, then provides an in depth analysis of biases exhibited in the text. Scores how bias the text is on a scale of 0-100, then provides alternate versions of the original text with minimal bias. If the second revision still contains bias, it mentions the bias in the reporting and original text, then uses the NLPs knowledge to provide a broader, less biased perspective. Stores key categories, recent analysis outcomes, and also scores online sources on the average bias of their content. While it was a fun and interesting project, I ultimately opted not to publish this due to possible copyright infringement concerns.
